As I have long recommended this technology for testing thermal fatigue stress relaxation for die casting dies, I was a bit unhappy as I could not find anyone who owned and used this device from Bonal Technologies or others, and where it could be tried.

According to Bonal Technologies, by applying this method of annealing to machined parts, the results were improved by 50%, in the case of weldments by 69%. Overall, scrap was reduced by 50%. At the same time, this method saves 62 to 95% of annealing costs, and 50% to 95% of time. In today’s age of energy savings, it is something to consider, at least try it out. Bonal offers Meta-Lax equipment for $337.55/month.

Is it really that perfect? I don’t know, it needs to be verified and tested. Until recently, I thought that such a device was not available in our country. I was wrong.

Not too long ago, a client called me asking if I knew of anyone who would be cheaper than the existing suppliers. I was very surprised, although I suspected that someone had it, but I did not know the details.

X-ray diffraction will answer our question quite quickly and accurately. The principle is described in the SAE J784a standard. All you have to do is take a sample of the die or part where the load or damage has occurred due to thermal fatigue and X-ray the sample. Then let it relax by the vibration method and analyse the X-ray again. The internal stress  difference will be what we are looking for.
