So I’m back home after my vacation and I’m experiencing one shock after another. The first is ZETOR and the definitive end of production. That doesn’t sound good. After losses like Poldi Kladno, Pilsen Steel, LIAZ, this is another pearl of Czech industry that has definitively left us, this time to India. I had an emotional connection to Zetor. First of all, I spent my youth in Brno, and without Zetor, it wouldn’t have been possible in Líšeň, and secondly, it was one of the potential acquisitions of Bodycote, which I participated in. It didn’t work out, after all, Bodycote was not motivated to take such steps. And our local enthusiasm wasn’t enough. Maybe that’s why Zetor fell, but probably not. The reason is the costs of energy, iron, aluminum, etc. When I entered it into AI, I got this table:
What can I say? What we invented here and produced for 80 years will end up in India, and what is produced in India will be imported back as a finished product. That’s what I call Globalization. Who will be next?
