For our task <strong>3D printing and HIP,<\/strong> the results were presented by <strong>doc. Ing. Tom\u00e1\u0161 \u010cegan, Ph.D<\/strong>. Both for the part related to <strong>3D printing<\/strong> of <strong>Ti6Al4V<\/strong> for implantology, and for the part dedicated to printing of <strong>Dievar<\/strong> powder steel. In both cases, it was confirmed that without <strong>HIP<\/strong> it is very difficult to imagine the direct applicability of <strong>3D printing<\/strong> for <strong>critical applications<\/strong>. Functional criticality<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The part is part of a system where its failure leads to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>loss of load-bearing or pressure function,<\/li>\n<li>failure of a safety or control element,<\/li>\n<li>threat to life, property or operation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">2. Operational criticality<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The part is exposed to extreme conditions such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>high temperatures (800\u20131500 \u00b0C),<\/li>\n<li>high pressures (tens to hundreds of bar),<\/li>\n<li>cyclic thermal and mechanical stress,<\/li>\n<li>corrosive, radiation or hydrogen environment,<\/li>\n<li>magnetic or electric field with high sensitivity to defects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">3. Material criticality<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The part requires:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>controlled microstructure and homogeneity,<\/li>\n<li>low content of inclusions and pores,<\/li>\n<li>residual stress control,<\/li>\n<li>precisely defined thermal history,<\/li>\n<li>validated AM parameters and qualified production process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">4. Inspection and certification criticality<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The part is subject to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>mandatory NDT inspection (RT, CT, UT, PT, MT),<\/li>\n<li>process qualification according to normative requirements (e.g. AMS, ASTM, ISO, RCC\u2011M, ASME),<\/li>\n<li>traceability of material, powder, printing parameters and heat treatment,<\/li>\n<li>customer or regulator audit regime.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So if I imagine <strong>AM technology<\/strong> as a modern way of producing parts at an unreasonable price, but with previously unknown properties, technical, physical, economic, safety, then basically nothing but critical parts is worth printing.
